Job Title: Senior Service Designer (Contract)

Location: Remote within Canada (occasional in-person meetings in Alberta with reasonable notice)

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel within Alberta for meetings

Employment Type: Full-time Contract

Term: Approx. 1 year (with potential extension of up to 24 months)

Hours: 7.25-hour workday (full-time)

Position Overview:

We are seeking multiple Service Designers to work on service innovation, program review, and digital transformation initiatives.

As a Service Designer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate human-centred design approaches into projects, ensuring services are efficient, effective, and user-friendly. You will be involved in research, prototyping, co-design workshops, testing, and developing service blueprints that guide the transformation of services delivered to citizens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate human-centred design methods into service review and transformation projects.
  • Conduct user and behavioural field research, co-design workshops, and prototype testing.
  • Develop and document journey maps, service blueprints, process maps, and user stories.
  • Perform usability testing and measure service performance.
  • Analyze user and employee experiences across multiple channels (web, mobile, phone, face-to-face, etc.) to identify gaps, opportunities, and solutions.
  • Co-design and develop new processes, policies, and strategies to drive change management.
  • Create and maintain strategy and roadmap documents or diagrams for service improvement.
  • Collaborate with program teams to integrate new solutions into current service operations.

Must Have Requirements:

  • 3+ years: Experience with service design research and outputs.
  • 3+ years: Experience working within a cross-functional product team in an Agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • 3+ years: Experience planning, conducting, and analyzing findings from qualitative field research, creating representations, and reporting.
  • 4+ years: Experience planning, conducting, and analyzing findings from co-designs with service users, creating representations, and reporting.
  • 2+ years: Experience planning, observing, analyzing, and reporting on usability testing in both production or prototype systems.
  • 3+ years: Experience working as a Service Designer in a cross-functional team to deliver a digital service, including concept testing and prototyping.
  • 3+ years: Experience working with change management or other organizational change as part of service transformation and implementation.
  • 3+ years: Experience working as a Service Designer on a project comparable in size and complexity to service innovation, program review, and/or digital transformation projects.

Additional Qualifications

  • Annotated Portfolio as attachment: All responses must include a personal portfolio of work of the proposed resource. The portfolio must include work samples with brief annotations explaining the work. The portfolio must be uploaded as an attachment to the resume.   • Security Requirements: Upon being hired, may require Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Security Clearance, or RCMP Top Secret Clearance depending on project assignment.
  • Equipment: Contractor to provide own equipment (computer, software, etc.); however system access and credentials will be provided.
  • Location Flexibility: Primarily remote work; occasional on-site meetings and possible Alberta field travel.
  • Training: Mandatory courses include FOIP, Security/Cybersecurity, Information Management, and Respect in the Workplace, plus other required training.
